Ashmead's Kernel Apple

Malus domestica 'Ashmead's Kernel'

The incredible sweet-tart flavor of this superb heirloom apple has made it a connoisseur's favorite. Discovered in Gloucester about 1750, scab-resistant trees are easy to grow and are grown commercially in England today. The medium size fruit with brown russetting keeps extremely well and makes a potent, 'sharp', aromatic juice. Also fantastic as a bold fresh-eating apple to include in any Ploughman's Lunch.

This variety is a triploid and is pollen sterile. It will not pollinize other varieties. Bloom group 3. Mid-season ripener. Requires 800-1000 chill hours to bloom and successfully set fruit.
