Van Deman Quince

Cydonia ablonga 'Van Deman'

Developed by famed plant breeder Luther Burbank in the late 1800s, Van Deman continues to be a standard against which all modern quince varieties are measured. Early-ripening, with unusually large fruit colored a sunny, clear yellow. The elongated, pear-shaped quince is heavily fragrant when fully ripe, and the healthy trees are quick to start bearing huge loads of fruit each year.

At the turn of the 20th century almost every rural family had a fruiting quince tree. The varieties we offer have delightful pineapple-like flavors. They are prized for baking, jelly making, and adding to apple ciders. Quince trees are self fertile, with showy white blossoms in late spring.
